"I draw inspiration for my paintings from anything that stops me in my tracks, "Jim Hollon said, " but somehow I\'m almost always lured back to animals -- both wild and domestic. I like animals. I always have -- from the time I was a kid in South Texas riding horses and camping in the wilderness where I could see wild animals first hand." Most of Jim\\'s adult life has been spent as a writer who illustrated much of his work with photography and occasional, his own drawings, but all the while he longed to paint. It was in the mid-1980s while living in Oregon that an artist friend, knowing of Jim\\'s drawings, encouraged him to take up a serious plunge into painting. He has since studied the works and books of some great artists and enrolled in several workshops. His drawings and paintings soon were accepted by a gallery in Oregon. Shortly after, his work was in several galleries in that state. Jim paints from life and from photographs he has taken. "You need a camera with animals, or for fleeting scenes you see while traveling," he said. In 2008 Jim and his wife, Barbara, bought a house in Green Valley and moved there full time late in that year. Jim soon was working on southwest subjects and has developed a number of works with southwest themes.
